If you screw up at Cypress, you are out of there in a nanosecond. The manufacturing problem that Cypress had in Cypress Semiconductor Philippines Incorporate(CSPI) probably cost the job of a plant manager and vice president of manufacturing. I don't know for sure but both of them are no longer work for Cypress. Cypress is a very tough place to work. I consider Cypress as a marine boot camp. The drill sargent(TJ Rodgers and his emotionless robots(except Dan:)) operate the camp like there is a war. He operates it very lean; thus, Cypress is still able to stay in SRAM business. Because he runs so lean(probably 30% less people than IDTI or other similar size company), occasionally, the sh** happens.
The problem with Cypress is not the management per se. It is the market they are in. They do not have a critical mass to compete against Samsung, Micron, etc. You may fault the management for the staying in the market but it is very difficult to teach old dog a new trick.
I expect Cypress to perform well during the SRAM shortage but within 6 months, they will peak and it will go back to sub $15.
