NASA MAN HIDING FROM METEOR IN CAVE <http://www.dispatch.com/pan/localarchive/cavenws.html>
This Columbus Dispatch article appears to be the original story, that was picked up by AP and printed in other newspapers <http://www.cleveland.com/news/pdnews/metro/c18cave.ssf>, and the AP website still doesn't show it as one of their stories. A couple other places have re-written the story, but at least this newspaper has claimed authorship of the story with no other credit given to AP or anyone else.

Another day, another man hiding from meteor in cave

CALDWELL, Ohio -- As odd behavior goes, Noble County Sheriff Landon T. Smith said finding a Kennedy Space Center computer programmer in a cave awaiting the destruction of Earth by a meteor last week was within local norms.
The encounter with Lloyd L. Albright, who fled Florida for the rural county 80 miles southeast of Columbus, didn't surprise Smith. He has seen plenty of unusual cases during his career.
In the latest case, residents near Wolf Run Lake reported seeing an unfamiliar car parked in the area north of Caldwell off I-77.
"This vehicle was completely loaded down with stuff. There was room for only one person. There were 16 guns -- rifles, shotguns, handguns of all makes -- and ammunition to go with all of them,' Smith said. He also found camping equipment and a large quantity of dried food, including 200 pounds of wheat.
A NASA identification card found on the car's front seat belonged to Albright, a 47-year-old computer programmer from Satellite Beach, Fla.
The space agency confirmed Albright's employment but said he worked at the center as the employee of a NASA contractor.
After hearing about the car and fearing Albright might have injured himself, Smith led deputies through trampled grass along a road and into heavy woods.
A rope tied to a tree led down the embankment, and another rope led down an even steeper embankment.
Albright was at the end of the second rope -- in a cave that went into the rock about 20 feet.
"He was lying there trying to cook an egg over a fire, but he wasn't having much luck,' Smith said.
That's when Albright told Smith a giant meteor was to strike the earth at 4 p.m. last Wednesday. Despite Albright's credentials, Smith didn't believe him.(cont)

SUMMARY:
The images shown on this page, were captured from QuickTime movie of a NASA feed. In this video clip, three unusual objects appear during the instant of the full eclipse. I have named them Objects A, B and C. These objects were captured by the camera, and not the result of a technical defect.
What caught my attention, were the camera movements. I could see that the cameraman was trying to acquire something that had appeared in the overscan area of his camera viewfinder, in the upper right hand corner of the image viewing area.
FIRST SIGHTING:
I first detected Objects A and B on a Real Networks G2 80K video clip taken from the CNN site on 11-Aug-99. I reviewed that clip several times and determined that the objects were not caused by a lens flare, a defective camera imaging chip, or a dropout on the recording tape stock.
At that point, I brought my findings to the attention of Earl Crockett and Gary Goodwin of the Millennium Group. What I wanted to know, is if these objects were something explainable, such as a reflection from a building or an airplane that had crossed the camera's point of view.
ANALYSIS:
Gary Goodwin examined my findings, and was able to find the QuickTime clip of the exact same NASA feed. QuickTime 4 clips have a much better resolution than Real Networks G2 clips, and Gary found a third object, which I've titled Object C. He sent me this clip and asked me to confirm the third object, which I did. He also asked me if the clip had been "edited" in any way.
I installed QuickTime 4 Pro on my PC and used it to capture the images shown on this page, directly from the clip. I used Microsoft Paint to add comments to the BMP files generated by QuickTime and then used CompuPic to convert those images to the GIF and JPEG formats for use on this web page.
These images are presented in order below. (Click on any image to view a full size JPEG version.) My conclusions follow the images.
Please keep in mind that video captures images in 1/30th of a second. Many of the captures shown in this still sequence represent fractions of sections. For the typical television viewer, these split-instant images are a blur. On the other hand, experienced video professionals learn to spot aberrations such those shown in the images below.(cont)
