And many do disagree. How bright he is, is purely a judgement call. His principles have been called into question by many, (again, his trying to bolt a sinking ship in mid stream for a better job was one example, his focusing on the sexual minutae in the report he wrote was another, allegations of intimidation, threats, and leading witnesses are another, setting himself up to be prosecutor, judge, juryor, and witness is another) there have been many accusations of his being anything politically tone deaf.
Those may be only accusations, but they are legitimate reasons for people to question those attributes you gave him.
I also seem to remember that Starr's own ethics advisor resigned on him. I don't rmember all the details off hand, but I am sure that some here will.
