The Reuters and Bloomberg news statements did not state other bidders. The Bloomberg statement (check the Bloomberg website) reported that the Nortel contract is US$400million, and represents the initial stage of a total of US$1billion to be spent by Cable and Wireless. How many other big players are out there-Lucent, Tellabs, Cisco, Alcatel, Ericsson, and I will not forget about Newbridge. Maybe Newbridge will announce a piece of the action when quarterly results are released next week. In any event, its a huge win for Nortel, at someone's expense.
