Gosh, it is funny, but in retrospect ... most of the bands hated each other. I think the music biz in England was fleeting and fickle, and they knew it was a dog eat dog world. Richard Butler wasn't a happy and outgoing person, and the band wasn't too charismatic. I love their music, though. Speaking of miserable, did you ever meet Robert Smith? A huge disappointment because the Cure was my favorite band until I met them. I was expecting this deep, profound and intelligent guy. He acted like a spoiled 9 year old. Lawrence Tolhurst was really, really nice (he actually wrote me twice!) but they ousted him from the band. My favorite stuff was from when he was with them. The NICEST band though was Duran Duran (Roger Taylor, drummer, total sweetheart).
