When I was just discovering sex, at 18, and becoming familiar with items such as condoms, I would see them on the shelves in the drugstore, dozens and dozens, hundreds of them, and get this weird, depressed and betrayed feeling, because all the men, all over the world, who were buying such things, were being, in some strange, metaphysical way, unfaithful to me.
