Dia Met Minerals Ltd. and BHP Diamonds Inc. Announce
Agreements for Supply of Rough Diamonds

KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--BHP Diamonds Inc. and Dia Met Minerals
Ltd. wish to announce that discussions are proceeding with
Denton'cho Diamonds Inc., and Arslanian Cutting Works (NWT) Ltd.,
to establish agreements for the supply of rough diamonds from the
Ekati(TM) Diamond Mine. The two companies have been selected from
a number of proposals submitted to BHP Diamonds Inc. for local
manufacturing in the NWT.

The anticipated agreements stem from an understanding announced in
April 1998 between BHP Diamonds Inc. and the Government of the
Northwest Territories, under which BHP agreed to facilitate the
sale of rough diamonds to qualified northern manufacturers for
cutting and polishing in the NWT, at prices, terms and conditions
equivalent to its other marketing programs.

James R. Rothwell, President, BHP Diamonds Inc.

James E. Eccott, President Dia Met Minerals Ltd.
