TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY'S MOST COMPLETE REFERENCE DESIGN
Tools for DVD PC Applications
New Evaluation and Design Kits Provide All-In-One Solutions to PC OEMs and Add-In Card Manufacturers
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) today announced two DVD reference design tools, a DVD evaluation kit and a DVD design kit, for PC OEMs and add-in card manufacturers. The evaluation kit includes a full-featured DVD decoder board based on Toshiba's DVD chipset as well as a DVD-ROM drive, a DVD sample disk, software device drivers and installation manuals. The design kit includes all of the materials in the evaluation kit with the addition of manufacturable design data such as schematics, Gerber files, bill of materials, sample codes, design specifications and applications notes. These new tools provide complete, all-in-one development solutions for DVD personal computer applications.

Toshiba's evaluation and design kits are compatible with S3's ViRGE(R)/VX, ViRGE/DX, ViRGE/GX, ViRGE/GX2 and Trio64V2(TM).
"S3's multimedia accelerators provide the scaling and filtering capabilities required to display high-quality MPEG2 video on the PC," said Mark Farley, manager, third-party video solutions for S3 Incorporated. "The combination of Toshiba's DVD reference designs with S3 multimedia accelerators delivers the high quality, 30 frame per second DVD playback that end-users expect."
Future versions of Toshiba's design and evaluation kits will offer compatibility with other graphics cards.
Decoder Board Chipset Functions: The DVD evaluation kit and design kit include a DVD decoder board, which is based on Toshiba's DVD decoder chipset. This chipset consists of six individual integrated circuits, which break down the digital signal into component elements and perform logic decoding functions for complete DVD feature support.
