Ericsson signs $80 million contract to expand GSM system in Guangdong

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 20, 1999--Ericsson
(NASDAQ:ERICY) has signed an $80 million (SEK 650 million) contract
with Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. (GMCC) for the
expansion of their GSM network in the province.
Within the contract, Ericsson will provide infrastructure and
service solutions for the latest expansion phase of GMCC's GSM network
in the Guangdong province.
Nanjing Ericsson Communications Co. Ltd., one of Ericsson's eight
joint ventures in China, will provide the equipment for capacity
expansion. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid next year,
and will increase GMCC's GSM capacity to over eight million in the
province.
As one of China's most vibrant provincial economies, Guangdong
enjoys one of the most advanced infrastructures across China, with a
mobile phone subscriber base currently over five million. Ericsson has
established a strong, long-standing relationship with GMCC, a
subsidiary of China Telecom (Hong Kong) Ltd. In 1987, Ericsson
delivered the first analog mobile network to the Guangdong province.
