Eaton Company Limited (TSE/ME:ETN) advised today that contrary to the speculation in the media over the last 48 hours, it is not in discussions with Federated Department Stores for the sale of any of the company's assets. Eaton's has closed its Quebec stores and has requested the Toronto Stock Exchange to halt trading of its shares pending an announcement relating to the future of the company which it expects to make on or prior to Monday, August 23, 1999.
