Interesting Technology.....could be a serious competition for PHCM any comments ......

EPOC is Symbian?s technology for wireless information devices, comprising

a full application suite for wireless information devices, including messaging, browsing, office, PIM, and utility applications
connectivity software for synchronization with data on PCs and servers
a flexible architecture and programming systems to support compact but powerful software on wireless information devices, and software development
software development kits for wireless information device programs in C++, Java? and OPL, and PC-based connectivity/datasync programming in any language supporting COM, such as Visual C++, Visual Basic, Delphi etc
OEM tools for building and localizing wireless information devices
Wireless information devices include

smartphones: essentially phone-like devices, with added applications and PC connectivity using EPOC technology
communicators: essentially handheld computer-like devices, with tight or loose integration to mobile phones for data and voice applications
EPOC Release 5 is a high-end communicator which adds significantly to the integration and data communication capabilities of previous EPOC releases.

EPOC?s GUIs and applications are now being developed for a range of device families in the smartphone and communicator categories. One design, codenamed Crystal, will retain and develop EPOC Release 5?s communicator capabilities. Others, codenamed Quartz, Sapphire and Emerald, will address the requirements of other smartphones and communicator devices, with different user interface requirements and, indeed, different types of end-use.
