Florida Bank cheered for e-bank move

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS.MW) -- Investors sent shares of Florida Bank Inc. soaring 260 percent Tuesday afternoon after the company said it would introduce online banking services.

The Jacksonville-based bank (FLBK: news, msgs) will offer full-service real-time online banking through M&I Data Services starting in the third quarter.

Customers will have 24-hour access to their accounts from any location with an Internet connection. The stock shot up 22 7/16 to 30 7/16 on late-session volume of more than 13 million shares.

The holding company's shares were also boosted by growing sentiment that consumers are turning increasingly to the Web for many services, including banking and entertainment.

Meanwhile, Internet banker NetBank (NTBK: news, msgs) saw its shares jump 26 percent, up 41 to 199 1/2, after the company declared a 3-for-1 stock split.
