Well, the injection, if I recall correctly, was IM, intramuscular, not sub-Q, subcutaneous, nor IV, intravenous. Different needles are used for different things, at least in your better stocked doctor's office. And, although I don't recall your exact age, I think you are somewhat older, so your arms would have been larger. I would have been maybe six at the time, so I had skinny little girl arms, a little needle would do fine for IM. And if it was sub-Q, then a tiny needle would do.
