Robert, an excellent overview of the market relationships between Ascend-Cascade-Cisco-StrataCom is located at:

while the article is about 6 months old it does a good job of indicating where the respective players are/were in the remote access market. I found it very enlightening, esp. since it excluded some recent events which really only fuzz over the realities.
