Actual Persians. Though the trade embargo with Iran has been in place since the early 70's, many Persians are in circulation, and new ones enter the US via European importers who retag the rugs with non-Iranian countries of origin in order to pass customs. Go to ebay and search for "Persian Rug" and you'll usually find over 200 listings (including some Isfahans and Herizs)

Lately I've taken an interest in Gabbehs--Persian tribal rugs which aren't as florid as the city rugs, but instead are more geometric. Though most of the patterns are quite old, they have a modern look that is appealing, and mix well with the more formal rugs I've scattered about.
