I am a very active ebay seller and a stockholder. I have an impeccable and extensive feedback. I am really pissed at this new
charge for reserved auctions. I will be actively seeking alternative auction sites to list my items. Ebay could easily have taken a more constructive approach to the problem. They could easily program their
site to require bidders to inform ebay if a purchase has been made
from an auction in which the reserve was not met. They could easily
disallow a bidder from further bidding until the bidder posts the answer to one or more questions which would give ebay the information they need to track what they think are afterauction sales.
Nonetheless, Wall Street is going to like this announcement in the short run unless there is a decline in number of auctions as a result.
