What are you looking for? I haven't read any of the Nova collections, so I can't make a recommendation there. If you're asking about current short fiction you have a few options-

1- Dozois has been putting together a fairly large "best of 19xx" for the past decade and a half. There are other collections along similar lines.

2- You could try some of the sf magazines. Analog, for example runs
5-6 stories (in any given month one might be a serialization of a novel) in a Readers Digest size magazine each month, as does Asimov's Science fiction magazine, and The Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy... most are less than $3, but a PITA to find.
