No Joan, they don't. He may have had a too long funnel on it but there's no spring loaded needle on a light dealie. Now he may have given you a poke from something else but it wasn't from a lookie light deal.

Ruptured ear drums need special care. Maybe he just bumped it.

I'm not trying to make light of this but a ruptured ear drum is a big deal. Could be he used a probe and told you he was only looking.
