Doubts about AMDs financial viability? I have no doubts about that--I have no doubt that AMD is among the walking dead, they just don't realize it yet.

I am not so sure the multi-platform thing is very important to MSFT. Things have changed since it was important--multiple platforms have disappeared. There are really only two left--Sun and Intel. H-P is still here but HP's platform will be Merced (or is it McKinley).

I don't think MSFT has any interest tied to x86 clone makers thriving. Where MSFT does have interest in multiple platforms is in the Windows CE arena, and even that make become an Intel-only world within a very few years.
