re. a 30,000 foot oil well, I've checked, and it is at the extreme end of feasibility, but it is possible.

It would take 10 months or more, and cost in the ballpark of $30 M to drill, depending on what happened downhole.

That's what I learned yesterday when I asked somebody to check with a senior drilling engineer at a major oil company.

I also found this 1985 reference to a 32,000 foot Oklahoma dry-hole called "Bertha Rogers" as the oldest well ever drilled:
