CH, I am trying to figure out if where you are is the same locale as Annie Dillard's retreat in Puget Sound. Have you ever read her little (only in size!) books A Writer's Life and Holy the Firm? I thought they were glorious. Laughed at the family's computer envy. We too have four (sometimes more, depending on the condition of the ones CW is always building) and my my my brand new one has a modem connection of 50 whatevers. People keep saying things like - "You don't need all that power. My computer would work just fine for what you do. Let's trade." Haaaaaa- fat chance.
