I understand why you thought them rhetorical, my fault...but I was honestly curious...Bill sometimes shoots from the hip, and infers motives that need not apply in a given instance, I grant. He does not always do so, and although I do not recall the initial sequence, I would not be surprised if there were something that had gotten his "blood up". I have actually tried to figure out if I could productively intervene in that one, but had not yet decided. Have you considered trying to answer reasonably, and with a mind to ratcheting down?....I have never seen jla use the term "fag" before this, and, in fact, he joined me once in taking truedog to task for over- heated language on the gay issue. I do not excuse the slip, I merely point out that it was one, which is why, although I was a bit shocked, I did not jump on him. On the general point, I have, as occasion warranted, stepped in from time to time to deplore some rhetorical excess from some of these people. But when someone like Barry goads truedog by making a tasteless joke about aborting Republicans, I do not feel like leaping down his throat if he loses his temper. Everyone here knows that I disapprove, I need not constantly reiterate it....I do not deny your right to make jokes, especially if you feel provoked, but you are not improving the atmosphere of the thread by associating yourself with Barry, which surprises me in any case.... |
