My apology for confusing you with Christopher. Re. your second point -- I admit it's easy to suppose the "possibly final" couple are survivors of a nuclear disaster.

The original question did not specify cause. Without getting into a whole different discussion, I suggest it is equally plausible that Adama and Evan are still standing because they are the fittest of their species and that the rest fell in some world wide plague (damn all those cuddly little bugs anyway!) -- hell, maybe they were somehow protected from a catastrophic burst of cosmic radiation -- maybe the aliens overlooked them.

You and others seem to "blame" man so instinctively that I must wonder if you don't think most humans brutish and unworthy of existence in the first place. By your lights, it would seem that all people in conflict might as well be got rid of. Say good night to the Irish, the people of India and Pakistan, the Jews and their neighbors and so many more -- maybe even the testosterone bloated inhabitants of Dagestan!

IMO, survivors never stop thinking of survival. FWIW, I hauled a very impressive load of Blue Crabs out of a trap last night(just as Mother Nature, in the form of an awesome thunderstorm, was deciding whether to fry me or just scare the crap out of me). Also awesome to observe the fight those tasty things put up until the last one went into the pot. You may be happy to know that one was limber enough to reach back and get a good grip on my hand with both claws -- wouldn't let go! Bonnie Girl went nuts -- hard to tell if she was trying to help me or just thought the whole situation totally cool.

I thoroughly disagree with your final word -- "logic." I believe "emotion" would have been more accurate.

Peace.
