Corporation Supplies High Speed Access Corp. With IP Telephony Technology August 17, 1999 08:07 AM REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--
Market Trials Begin With Phone-to-Phone Service, With Cable Telephony Plans to Follow
Clarent(R) Corporation CLRN , a worldwide leader in carrier-grade, phone-to-phone IP telephony solutions, and High Speed Access Corp. HSAC , a leading provider of high speed Internet access via cable modem to residential and commercial end users in exurban areas, announced today that HSAC will be implementing Clarent's IP telephony technology in a number of HSAC's service areas.
The service is currently being tested in three HSAC locations.
During the trial, HSAC will offer phone-to-phone prepaid service over its IP telephony network using Clarent gateways and the Clarent Command Center. HSAC's plan is to offer conventional IP telephony services today and is also evaluating plans to offer cable telephony services.
"As worldwide growth for IP telephony products and services accelerates, we see our products starting to be adopted by leading cable industry players such as HSAC," said Jerry Chang, president and CEO, Clarent Corporation. "We are pleased to partner with HSAC in this initial service offering and look forward to our continuing relationship as they evaluate IP voice applications via cable."
"We are very excited about the possibility of enhancing our product line by offering voice services to HSAC's cable modem customers," said Ron Pitcock, president, HSAC.
"Our market trials provide the opportunity for HSAC to build out its IP telephony customer, back-end network and back office function so that we have the infrastructure in place to support our customers with innovative cable telephony products. Clarent's technology, which is designed to support phone-to-phone, fax-to-fax, cable modem-to-phone based on open standards from CableLabs, and other IP telephony applications, is an ideal choice for HSAC. Clarent recently participated in the first Packet Cable interoperability event and successfully interoperated with equipment from multiple vendors."
