norton systemworks tip...

"MONITOR FILE USAGE

CleanSweep 4.5's Usage Watch will run in the background and record
each time you use a file to determine which files are infrequently
accessed and, thus, may no longer be needed.

Usage Watch must be running to track and report accurate information
on how often files are used, and it can be configured to start
automatically as part of the Windows startup process even without
CleanSweep 4.5 running. It will use approximately 9K of system memory
and will put its icon in your System Tray next to the Smart Sweep and
Internet Sweep icons to tell you that it's running.

To configure Usage Watch, click Configure CleanSweep 4.5 on the
Options tab of CleanSweep 4.5's main menu. Click the Usage Watch tab,
and check the boxes next to both Turn Usage Watch On and Load Usage
Watch At Startup. Then click the Alert button.

In the Alert dialog box, set the number of days a file can go unused
before you are alerted. Then, tell Usage Watch to check for unused
files either every time it runs or after a set number of days. The
latter is preferred, since checking for unused files every time
Windows starts is overkill.

If you want Usage Watch to alert you with a siren sound when unused
files are found, check the box next to If Unused Files Are Found,
Alert With The Sound. You can use the Browse button to find another
Wav file if you like. The Usage Watch icon in the taskbar tray will
also flash if you have checked the Alert If Any File Is Unused For
More Than XX Days option.

Click OK when you're finished."

[ note: i'm going to configure usage watch to run on startup. i'm a little concerned about the siren alert <g3> but maybe i'll replace it with a bob dylan wav. the files they are a-changin'?]
