Gottfried,

Thanks for the tip. I don't have any Zip products though. I don't have much of a backup scheme either. Don't have too much important stuff on my computer <g>. I just save my stuff to non-OS hard-drives and that's worked (so far). Got my first "out of hard-drive space" message today. Time to make the purchase. Been thinking about a CD-RW, but may just go for a new HDD for now. It's funny how a 20GB HDD for $220 seems like a lot today but a year ago I paid $160 for a 3.2GB drive and was happy...

I've got a hunch that the AltaVista free internet system is the same one that is being offered with the Compaq PC/i bundle: CompuServe. Does this make sense? My traceroute shows that when I dial in to AltaVista I get hooked up to the internet right in my hometown. Plus, they have several backbone links from my town as well: one time I was put right on GlobalCenter, another time I was put on Sprintlink. The trace times are low and so are the number of hops. Seems like a very strong infrastructure. All just guesses of course.
