Yes, it was a nice, if somewhat overly informal, service. For example, when the deacon did not show up to lead the singing, the priest asked me to do it. However, he only asked for one song, and did not work anything further out with me. In the course of the service, he sprang two more songs on me. I fumbled the first, because they use a non- traditional hymnal, and I had trouble finding something I was familiar with, so I ended up repeating the first hymn, after some embarrassment. At the end, they sprang another on me, only this time they had a request, "How Great Thou Art". Fine, except that I am not adequately familiar with it, and I am not great at cold sight reading, so I rebelled, and did "Immaculate Mary". The reading that I did, from Revelations, was very appropriate, as were the others, and the homily emphasized Christian hope to enter into God's presence.... |
