dailynews.yahoo.com "BSkyB to launch interactive soccer service LONDON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Pay TV group BSkyB will this weekend launch a new soccer service allowing viewers to change the angle from which they watch the game and call up instant highlights of key passages of play.
Sky's service, which it says will be the first of its type in the world, will be available Sunday when Arsenal play champions Manchester United, BSkyB said.
The technology is available on Sky's multi-channel digital service, which has signed up more than 1.2 million subscribers since its launch last year.
Using the remote control, viewers will be able to switch to a camera angle following the game from behind the goal. Other angles will be added as the season progresses.
Another feature provides a rolling review of action in a game, allowing fans tuning in after kick-off to see the goals, saves or sending-offs they have missed.
There will also be a statistics section, giving details on starting line-ups and an update on any player's contribution during the match. Viewers will also be able to order an instant replay of an incident such as a penalty claim.
British Sky Broadcasting Plc, about 40 percent-owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., has exclusive live rights to 60 English premier league matches each season. Its sports rights have been a key element in its development in recent years. |
