Chevron Boosts Number Of Jobs In The PNG Pipeline To 60,000 - Australasian Business Intelligence (Abix):
The Courier-Mail, Aug.19

Chevron forecast on 18 August 1999 that its Papua New Guinea to Brisbane gas
pipeline would create 60,000 jobs. Previous forecasts have been 5000 jobs over a
30-year period. Project director John Powell said on 18 August that the project was
considering alternative gas supplies for the pipeline to overcome any potential
shortages or unforeseen circumstances. The pipeline, according to current
timetables, will deliver its first gas at the end of the year 2002. However, Chevron is
pushing to bring forward project completion. Comalco needs gas for its proposed
Gladstone alumina refinery in the middle of 2002.
