Justin,

I forgot to respond to your question.

.) Q technology will be used for 3G in the form of three modes (WCDMA, CDMA2000, and....CDMAOne[?]). This is evidenced by ERICY's settlement with the Q.
2.) The 3G standard is still up for grabs, competing with technologies like GSM.

In my book, the best thing about the standard is that the market is creating the standard in advance of the standards committees. That speaks reams about Qualcomm's lock on the proprietary technology.

Regarding the three modes, I'd like to point out to the people who might be confused that those three modes are not to be confused with the three-mode mobile phone that a lot of people think is likely to be the stuff of the future. That phone will have GSM, TDMA and CDMA inside it. It will allow people to roam through various GSM-, TDMA- and CDMA-enbabled cells without being dropped, which is what happens today.
