OT: I really didn't want to join in, but the last post that turned this into a religious war was just too much. First, I do believe that people are "spamming" about the crisis, and if you are, you should really reconsider your approach. Posting the same irritating message on many boards across SI should be grounds for canceling your membership. Annoying people will not garner the support you're looking for. If you can't understand that spamming is unwelcome, then maybe you should learn basic e-mail, newsgroup, and bb etiquette.

As far as all of the comments about religion or genocide as a reason to question the aid effort, I am amazed at the lack of compassion in these statements. The people in Turkey are people, plain and simple. They may be Muslim, they also may be Catholic, Jewish, Coptic, or other denominations. The fact is that they are suffering, and almost all of them are innocent of whatever caused you to have a grudge. The vast majority of the people suffering did not persecute people of other religions, commit genocide, or any other atrocities. Most of them have families, and most of them are truly suffering. If you choose to help, as I do, then help. If not, then please stop insulting them or questioning the validity of their need on this board.

Could we please get back to talking about Microsoft?

For starters, did anyone see recent press that talked about Steve Balmer and Bill Gates mentioning a new, Internet API set and tools for building Web applications? I saw this in a few public news announcements, and while I can't give more facts than I read publicly, I can say that this stuff will be very cool.

Thanks,
Mike
