Is Windows 2000 a combination of Windows NT and Windows 98 ? No. It was originally going to be called NT 5. It is a new version of NT. They're not going backwards and "combining" it with an OS they've long tried to kill off, but which continues to put up a valiant fight for continuation. (There are, however, shared technologies between the two OS families, including, of course, the browser.) Unfortunately, they decided that confusion about the name in the marketplace is a good thing. Maybe it will help get some who might have been scared of it to finally switch over to NT.
