<<If you're trying to get me to state that gold showed those traits throughout history, I would agree to a certain extent (depending on the period of history you were referring to). >>

No, not trying to draw no one to any conclusion. Rather, I saw gold should be a rather small part of the overall topic of this thread. Discussions can go in any direction when started, of course, but I'm far more concerned with the overall direction of monetary policy and it's effects.

For instance, can the monetary policy harm the overall future of our nation? I picked up (from Janes) the next supplier of our Naval Cruise missile may well be Russia due to cost. Do others see a danger in this?

If we see an overall destruction of our farming (not simply the family farm which may have out lived it's time as a listed "commodity" producer )is it a danger to the future of our country?

Is there a possible danger if the current Mega-merger in copper goes thru?

Do we, as a nation, need a diversified manufacturing and natural resource sector for the future of our nation to be secure?

Can our nation long survive as an economic power at these levels of import?

Should the stock market(especially the "nifty 50" + .com + select tech market) be the driving force of the entire economy?

btw

<<Have you noticed that the US is bordered by TWO very large and deep oceans? And that we have the strongest navy and air forces in the world??>>

I'm wondering with ICBM's in the hands of near every crazy how much do those ocens really protect us?
