scott, RE: Janus and DELL

At the end of the 2Q, Janus held 35.456mm shares of DELL. During the quarter Janus sold 20mm shares of DELL. Meanwhile, Alliance Capital Management added to their already considerable holdings in DELL, buying 11.7mm shares during to quarter to bring the holdings to 119mm shares, or nearly 5% of the shares outstanding.

The most notable thing that I notice when perusing the 13F filings is that for the most part, there wasn't any change in the net institutional holdings of DELL. There was, however, a noticeable change in the style of the institutions that hold DELL. The funds that added to their DELL holdings were primarily index funds (e.g. BZW Barclays, Vanguard, TIAA-CREF), and the funds that were selling DELL were primarily actively managed funds (e.g. Fidelity, Janus, Lincoln Capital).
