Alcatel Introduces its International Gateway Switch to the US Market; S12 Offers Carriers Cost-Effective International Call Routing
DALLAS, Aug 23, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) introduces its International Gateway Switch, the Alcatel 1000 S12,in the US market to deliver carriers cost-effective and robust international gateway functionality with traditional tandem routing.
A world class and industry-leading switch, the S12 allows both new and established carriers the advantage of carrying international calls across its own network and saves on costly access fees.
The Alcatel 1000 S12 is an ideal solution for all carriers including inter-exchange carriers (IECs), regional Bell operating companies (RBOCs) and competitive long distance carriers (CLDCs), who are looking for solutions which enable full network control and the ability to bypass expensive gateway fees from other carriers. In addition, customers will benefit from Alcatel's unsurpassed expertise in call routing, which has worldwide deployments of more than 227 million Alcatel switching terminations to date.
"Alcatel's S12 switch gives operators the ability to retain full control of their own international call routing. It empowers carriers to control both the business and component side of their network," said Mike Myers, Vice President-General Manager of the Switching and Routing Business Unit, Alcatel USA. "Furthermore, operators have the capability to implement new country protocols as needed using the S12."
The Alcatel 1000 S12 fits into the network at the tandem level. It gives carriers an attractive alternative to their traditional purchase strategy due to its flexibility to scale from a few hundred to 120,000 ports. For new carriers, the S12 provides an entry point into the telecommunications market and allows for future network expansions. Established carriers can benefit from its scaleability to leverage capability in their existing networks.
Compatible with current vendor networks, Alcatel's switch easily migrates into existing network architectures and minimizes deployment costs. The Alcatel 1000 S12 has integrated IN-SSP capability and a unique data-oriented switching fabric for smooth migration to integrated broadband and IP-based services. This feature enables carriers to compete globally in the emerging data network marketplace.
Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of EURO 21.3 billion ($25.0 billion), Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries.
