Siemens, IBM to collaborate on SiGe ICs for mobile networking systems

MUNICH -- Siemens AG's Information and Communication Networks division here has joined a growing list of systems makers and chip companies working with IBM Corp. to implement next-generation products using silicon-germanium process technology. Under an agreement announced today, Siemens and IBM Microelectronics plan to work together on SiGe system-on-chip designs for high-performance mobile networking communications systems.

SiGe technology promises to not only significantly increase performance and lower power dissipation but it also can support the integration of radio-frequency (RF) functions with digital circuits.
