Softworks to buy back up to 2 mln shrs

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug 23 (Reuters) - Softworks Inc., a provider of data, storage, and
performance management products and services, said Monday that its board of directors
has authorized the repurchase of up to two million shares of common stock.

Up to one million shares are to be purchased on the open market and up to one million
shares are to be purchased in private transactions.

In May, the company filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to sell 3.5 million shares of common stock. Of
the total amount, one million were sold by the company and 2.5 million by selling stockholders.

Softworks currently has about 17.1 million shares outstanding.

''The stock repurchase program reflects the board of directors' belief that the current price of the company's common stock is
undervalued, given our potential to grow the business,'' Judy Carter, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Softworks common traded at 6-3/4, up 0-9/32 Monday morning. It's high for the year was 16-14/16, and its low was 3-2/16.
