As PC World stated, they reviewed a prerelease version. We have totally rewritten the product since we originally acquired it. We had to deliver a copy for review about 2/3 of the way through the development cycle.

The three major hits we took were areas that had not been "hooked up" to the product at the time we had to deliver our product for testing. We could have just skipped the test altogether and missed the opportunity to get some exposure, or we could have let them have a prerelease version. We opted for the prerelease version option, hoping that they'd say at least SOMETHING good about it. They did.

The main areas they pointed out as weak:

1) We now show the results of the hardware tests as they execute, so you don't have to "pop the disk in and out and reboot" to see the results.

2) "As for software scanning, the kit lists every .exe, .com, and .dll file on your system--something Windows' own file finder can do for free." True. At the point in time when they took the product for test, we hadn't hooked up the results of the application software scan to the Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) interface which automatically links the user to the vendors' website for download of Y2K fixes (if any). Incidentally, we have our own version of a COTS database for local and internet use, and we also provide access to the internet EDS database that CA and EDS made such a big to-do about a few weeks ago.

3) "The Compliance Kit's built-in data scanner is only slightly better. An extra scanner is promised in the final version." Again, true. The only scanner hooked up at the time of the test was the generic text scanner. Excel and others were delivered with the product when it went GA (General Availability) in early August.

Regards,

TED
