No, the tunnel below the Sphinx was actually used for mysterious sexual initiation rites. High Priests of the Sphinx cult would bring nubile, young girls to the altar of the horns and deflower them as part of the initiation to become Sphinx-girls. They did this every Saturday night. The waiting list to be a High Priest of the Sphinx was over 8 years.
