Here's a little Devil's Advocate for you folks. I'm not looking for a great debate here just some thoughts. If you are "gung-ho absolutely no-way Uncle Sam" about this privacy stuff just click NEXT for the next post :)

This sounds alot like what the government and other agencies ALREADY do in the real world. They have probable cause to search your house for drugs let's say, they prove their cause and some judge agrees, signs the warrant and the police come crashing through your front/back door. If the find EXACTLY what is stated in the search warrant you have to answer for it.

My understanding is if it's NOT in the warrant EXACTLY (if the state the color of your house wrong or the address is typed wrong for instance) ALL evidence is thrown out.

Sure they have made mistakes. Hell, I'm sure there are some "innocent" people in jail too does that mean we shouldn't do SOMETHING to protect ourselves from the deviants in our society?

I don't expect ANYONE to find a perfect solution because ONE solution doesn't exist. I would like to see someone starting a dialouge on just what should be done and how though and I would like to participate as well.

I'm not worried about IF the government or other agencies can read data off my computer. I'm worried about when and how they do it.

I think Scott was the first to say it here, there is a trade-off between total & complete privacy and belonging to a community. I'm willing to give SOME ground in privacy to attain a certain level of "quality of life" for me and my family. Instead of focusing on the real ugly side of this, why not some thoughs and reflections on how good this can be in many instances???

I just don't like all the "DoomsDay" stuff about this topic. It plays like a cheap Hollywood thriller and shows a close-mindedness.

Besides, let the government read my harddrive, there's nothing incriminating there....
