Such memories this brings back of my arrival at Baylor. In my case, my roommate and I looked everywhere for an elevator up to the fourth floor of the frosh dorm, Penland Hall (otherwise known less than affectionately as "Zoo II"), didn't find one, finally gave up and schlepped all our worldly possessions up four flights of stairs. Steamer trunks, the whole works. And then found the elevators at the ends of the hallways. And they didn't work either. Turns out they all broke down after the first day that the dorms were available for move-in, never to elevate again it seems, at least for a semester or two anyway.
penni, my congratulations on the admittedly bittersweet planting of Number One Son at the college of his choice. Rest assured that he is undoubtedly having the time of his life, in spite of the fact that Rice girls are...well...Rice girls.
Ahh yes, the Galleria skyline. I spent five years living right near there from about 1985 until 1990. In a one-bedroom apartment, maybe one thousand square feet, that rented for $375 a month. You're lucky if you can rent a downtown parking spot for that here. |
