As far as the application for desalinization is concerned, a voraxial system possibly could be used as a pretreatment to remove solids from sea water before the desalinization process. Water purifiers often have pretreatment stages to cut the cost of the expensive part of the process. For example, water deionizers, like reverse osmosis systems, usually have at least one, but more often two or three particulate filters in line before the R.O. membranes.
