I'm not saying we should trust the government with everything they do but I can't see painting them as the villian. I feel they could win more support if they could only articulate what they need to do for us in a more precise way.

Then again, the government or I should say, the people who are placed in positions in the government have failed us in ways which still make me wonder how all this even works! In those cases, I believe its the human factor - the person elected - that disappoints us and not the actual public office.

When you sit back and think about it, these laws by which we live our lives today were written in a time completely different than what we experience today. Do they fail us miserably? I don't think they do. Can they do more for us? Probably.

Then I think back to those days of McCarthy and Hoover and say to myself, if they didn't crush the spirit of the American people, why should anything today be any different?

I don't believe technology is the pancea for government some people make it out to be because that argument cuts both ways. The same technology that aids the government also can be used to thwart it. It's like the Stealth Bomber, if you know how & why it works, you can minimize the potential risk against you.
