the real problem with using the hypo to test our beliefs about environmental protection is, what species is going to go to extraordinary measures to protect the two surviving humans? The point was to display the silliness and inconsistency of the PC environmentalist perspective. The PC person would be willing to take extraordinary measures to preserve a non-human species, but would not sanction extraordinary sacrifice (by one of the humans involved, not by any putative saviour) to preserve humans. Nobody signed on for the first position, so nobody was caught, but we managed to wrangle over it for a while anyway.
