I would presume that only DRAM manufacturers are doing the DDR DRAM thing, and most of these guys are licensees of RMBS. If they are, I do not see what the problem is, after all, a rose by any other name (call it RDRAM or DDR DRAM)
I'm not sure, but I don't believe that licensing the RDRAM design and technology would automatically give the DRAM manufacturers the rights to build DDR, even if it uses Rambus-patented technologies. I believe that licensing can occur on a more limited basis than that.
OTOH, if Rambus gets their royalties, why would they care. Intel, however, would care very, very, very much. So I suspect that any licensing agreements cover this possibility.
