This time of year the walleye are going to be deep ..... I'd look for some good structure (eg., an area with a feeder stream into the lake with deep water and some bottom boulders\rocks. I'd likely fish with a jig, fished slowly and maybe dress it with a bit of worm or a small minnow. Lures such as the Beno or the Canadian Wiggler (I like the silver one) or a deep diving Rapala are usually good for walley. You may luck into some smallmouth bass too.

I recall seveal years ago taking my "little brother" (I was a Big Brother) fishing up to the area where I go. I rigged him with a jig and a little worm and we just tossed them out and drifted. Within 2 minutes he had landed a nice 5 pounder ..... he said "lets do that again" .... well - much to my surprise - that is exactly what he did - another 5 pounder less that 5 minutes later. He has the picture sitting on his mantle today - 20 years later.

I do not usually fish for crappies ..... but I know that some people up where I go, have good luck with small minnows.

BTW - Rice Lake has a very high population of musky .... try a bucktail .... I've found that lime green and cinnamon with a silver hammer blade finish works well as do yellow and orange with a brass blade. Later on, black with a little orange are good. The weather is suppose to be rainy for the next few days, ideal for musky. Pike love a white bucktail with a little bit of red and a brass blade.

Bucktails are usually best trolled out about 40 feet from the boat and at a good clip .... I've found that they work best about 1-2 feet under water.
