Their main competitor in firewall and VPN is Cisco. Cisco has the #1 spot in the firewall business. This is understandable because a hardware firewall is a viable solution, a generally better one then the software one. CheckPoint will become a gorilla in the VPN market, IMHO. CheckPoint is already number one and winning over Cisco with customers. Why? the need to upgrade frequently is too important for clients to go with a hardware solution which is much more costly to upgrade. The VPN market will explode 10 fold according to IDC in 2001. CheckPoint is already feeling the benefits. Last quarter, they beat easily estimates and ask analysts to raise their estimates for next quarter. they are expecting 10% growth from quarter to quarter for the rest of the year.
