Loring: My "John Birch" Answer....

>>I'm with you, PJ. Sorry I can't add any technical dialogue to the discussion, but I sure do wish some of us would tone down the government phobia. (I've been hearing this stuff ever since the John Birch Society showed up in the 50's, yet our culture continues to thrive.)

Granted, we all need to join in figuring out a way to find a balance between privacy and the public good. We might be better served to work toward a solution than to look for a villain.>>

Loring:

We have a fantastic culture in our country. One of the ONLY places on earth where you can express your views openly without fear of retribution.

I'm just afraid some of our windows of FREEDOM are slowly being closed. The Cyberspace Electronic Security Act is one such example. If enacted it could potentially such a whole lotta energy out of our country for individuals would feel less "free" and secure to share their ideas openly with others on "cyberspace" - a term I prefer not to use.

Cyberspace is OUR space. It's an open medium, an audit trail of our thoughts, good and bad. It's where we share our energy with the world on a level playing field

The entire rest of the world would line up in a heartbeat behind the Cyberspace Electronic Security Act (CESA) for ouside this country the bar protecting basic FREEDOMS is much lower. IMHO, CESA is playing to the world government bleachers on this one.

The more freedom exists the more energy is created: positive and negative.

The mere existence of negative energy should not provide the underlying basis for government to take away core freedoms and principals which the people of this great country have fought so hard to protect.

Hitler used negative energy - fear - to his advantage. Others can easily do the same.

We must do whatever we can to protect our right to share positive energy with others in this world. We are at the dawn of a New Revolution: The IP - Individual (Internet Protocol)- Revolution. The massive fruits of this positive energy are just beginning to impact individuals in the form of new innovations, ideas, products and services which extend and leverage our ability to create, build and maintain positive community which gives off positive energy.

Helping and Serving others is the new paradigm of growth.

I want to be able to FREELY be part of this revolution for it more than likely will help us all discover more direct ways we can all help each other.

Isn't government supposed to be a SERVICE model?

When you are being "of service" to others you don't aim to control, establish hooks, take energy or create fear. Helping and serving others is alot like climbing a tree. You have a better perspective, but you remain humbled by nature and the delicate risk you take for one missed step and you may fall. If you climb a tree with the design to use the "higher perspective" for selfish ends - i.e. information about what your neighbor is doing in his/her backyard - you are abusing your position in life and the trust of others. You won't be listening to the birds or the sound of the wind. You are listening to your neighbor. Quite a different picture if you ask me.

On the other hand, if I climb a tree because I have this desire to listen to the birds, feel the wind and simply think about the wonders of the beauty of life, I just may find myself saying "hi" to my neighbor. I just might share with him some bit of information about something which could help him/her - a suggestion, an idea, a positive word of encouragement, etc.

It's ALL a matter of MOTIVATION.

What's my purpose. What's my motive? Is it good? Is it bad? Am I trying to help someone? Am I trying to hurt someone? Am I taking energy? Or am I giving energy?

An unselfish pure spirit of service will be reflected in my ACTIONS. Forget about my words. Forget about my motives. ACTIONS is all you need to go by. Truth manifests itself through our ACTIONS. Either we give or we take. Either we show ALL are cards - our intentions - NOW or they will be discovered later...through our ACTIONS. There is NO middle ground in life.

I just think the motives behind CESA are questionable. The law, if enacted, will pave the way for ACTIONS which will prove motive. Unfortunately, you can't prove motive BEFORE truth manifests itself through ACTIONS. CESA is puts a massive cart before the collective horse which theoretically represents the entire collective value of our TIME and TRUST. CESA would create a governmemt controlled Electronic Security monopoly, the power of which could rival- even exceed - Microsoft. Now think about that for a minute.....

Which brings me back to the ACTIONS I've pointed out regarding Microsoft - the watermark in Windows '98 and evidence they've been providing FREE consulting services to local, state and federal public security agencies. Is there a connection or collusion going on here? Has anyone looked deeper into the record on this? I "see" more questions than answers. The ACTIONS I see make me naturally question the motives of those involved.

The government should have an extremely strong case for wanting to climb the electronic tree to "listen" in my backyard. Again, their ACTIONS over the past several years create more questions and provide few answers regarding the central issue: MOTIVE.

That's about it.

Thoughts anyone?

Novell does fit into this story. I think people can connect their own DOTS.

Peace.

GO!!
