I welcome comments on the following. It appears to me that the adjusted cost structure of the two systems are now about the same (thanks to the bondholders and public equity holders of I* getting whacked in bankruptcy). It also appears that the handsets size and price and minute price (especially international LD calls) are comparable (if not lower for I*). We also know that the I* already works everywhere, including the oceans, the North Pole, Idaho, and the Sahara (because of its structure). We also know that G* will be regional at best for a very long time and will never work where a gateway is not near (like the oceans). We also know that the bugs have been worked out of the I* system, (G*?). We also know that Motorola is not stupid, even though that could be argued. We also know that the I* paging is a competitive advantage.

So I* comes out of bankruptcy, continues to market the phone properly (and maybe a much smaller phone), and a new image campaign (remember the Nextel disaster - which is now the darling of Wall Street). How can Globalstar compete? I predict problems similar or worse than I*, except for the fact that the old man Schwartz will have no problem risking the viability of Loral to save his swan song.
