I don't generally subscribe to conspiracy theories, but the effect is so pronounced that I wonder what's going on. Perhaps once the first journalist labels something, the others just follow thoughtlessly. Or perhaps since MSFT was up more than SUNW yesterday (I think), they take that as a reading of the way the market interprets it, and don't want to buck the trend. Even articles whose opening paragraphs explain it's a mixed decision seem to carry headlines proclaiming a victory for Microsoft.

Another alternative is one I'd prefer not to believe -- that there's a bias in the reporting.

It's a very curious thing.
